Mohammed Majam is the Director for Medical Technologies at Ezintsha. The Medical Technologies portfolio encompasses Diagnostics, Implementation, and mHealth innovation projects. Mohammed is a lifelong “Witsie” having not left the Wits University family from his first day back in 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours degree in Biochemistry and Genetics, as well as completing an MBA (cum laude) from the institution in 2016. Mohammed has a passion for operational efficiencies and this lead him to obtain his Six Sigma Black Belt qualification.

Mohammed is most notably known as “Mr Self-Testing” globally having built a reputation in the field of HIV self-testing through his work on HIVST evaluations and implementation. He and his team successfully evaluated the first HIV self-test to make it through WHO pre-qualification. Since then, he has been the go-to person for Diagnostic Manufacturers seeking to get their products approved. Mohammed lead the Self-Test Africa (STAR) project in South Africa, which oversaw the distribution of 2.2 million HIV self-tests through various innovative, decentralized modalities. Recently, the medical technologies department has expanded its scope beyond HIV and now have set up systems for the evaluation of Hepatitis C, and COVID platforms.
Mohammed is a passionate sportsman and can be found on the cricket field, golf course, football pitch, or tennis court, when he is not travelling.
